Getting started

What is Movie Case? A personal movie archive for your iPhone. Add the movies you own and the ones you’ve seen, rate them, keep a watchlist, and let the app learn your taste to suggest what to watch next.

What do I need? An iPhone running iOS 18 or later. Movie Case is on the App Store and is free to download.

Do I need an account? No. There is nothing to sign up for. Your library lives on your iPhone.

Adding movies

  • Search by titleTap Add, type the title, and pick the movie from the results. Details, posters and ratings fill in for you.
  • Take a photo of the coverTap the camera on the Add screen and point it at a DVD, Blu-ray or 4K case. The title is read from the cover on your iPhone and matched for you.
  • Scan a whole shelf (Pro)Photograph a shelf of movies and Movie Case finds every title on it, so you can add them all in one go.

How do I rate a movie? Open the movie and tap or swipe the stars under “My rating”. Ratings feed your taste profile and your recommendations.

How does the watchlist work? Switch on “Add to watchlist” on a movie, or tap Watchlist on a recommendation. The toggle at the top of your library shows only your watchlist.

Can I record which format I own? Yes. Tag a movie as DVD, Blu-ray, 4K or digital, or make tags of your own.

Movie Case Pro

What does Pro add? Personalised recommendations refined by AI from your whole library, plain-English reasons why a movie fits your taste, search by anything (a director, an actor, or just a description), typo correction in search, custom poster art for any movie, and shelf scanning.

How much is it? £2.99 a month, billed through your Apple ID. You can try the app for free first; Pro only adds to it.

  • Cancel or change the subscriptionIn the app, go to Settings and tap “Manage subscription”, or open the iPhone Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling keeps Pro until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
  • Restore a subscription on a new iPhoneOpen the Pro screen and tap “Restore purchases”. You need to be signed in with the same Apple ID you subscribed with.
  • Turn the AI features offIn the app’s Settings, switch off “AI-assisted features”. Recommendations and search then use only the data on your iPhone.

Your data

Is my library private? Yes. It is stored on your iPhone, we have no copy of it, and the app has no analytics or tracking. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is sent to services such as TMDB when you search, and what is sent for the Pro features.

  • Back up your libraryIn Settings, under Backup, turn on iCloud backup to keep a copy in Files → iCloud Drive → Movie Case, updated automatically. Export saves the same file wherever you like.
  • Move to a new iPhoneTurn on iCloud backup on the old phone, install Movie Case on the new one and import from Files. Or export a backup and import it. Movies you already have are skipped.
  • Delete your dataDelete any movie from the app at any time. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your iPhone.
